The Northwich Woodlands
Distance and Time: The walk is about 2.2 miles in length and should take about 55 minutes to 1 hour 5 mins.
This walk passes through the landscape of the Northwich Woodlands. The area bears little resemblance to that which existed only sixty or seventy years ago. The land was riddled with subsidence and large flashes, lakes caused by collapsing mines. It is now pleasant woodlands and reed lined streams, the product of over 40 years of land reclamation.

Northwich a town on the edge
Distance and Time: The walk is 2.2 miles long and should take 55 minutes to 1 hour 5 mins
This walk takes you through the southern part of the Northwich Woodlands, taking in a landscape altered by subsiding mines. It then changes to take in the Northwich Town with its distinctive black and white houses, built to combat subsidence. The final part follows the line of the River Dane, where medieval salt workers once thrived.

Lostock Gralam Railway Station
This is the Gateway Station to the Lion Salt Works and other local attractions whose history has been dominated by the local salt and chemical industries.
The Lion Salt Works is less than two miles away and will take about 45 minutes by foot along the Trent and Mersey Canal.
Turn left at the station entrance and follow Station Road to the cross roads. Cross over to the Slow & Easy pub using the crossing and turn left to pass the pub.
Follow the busy Manchester Road until you arrive at the canal bridge – you will see the Nectars Bar opposite. Just over the bridge, via the steps down you can join the canal towpath which takes you to the Lion Salt Works.
There is a map and more recommended walks on the Mid Cheshire Rail website.
